Lip fillers have grown in popularity over recent years due to the popularity of the procedure amongst many celebrities and style icons, as well as the increase in accessibility of the procedure. In fact, lip fillers are one of the most frequent beauty related google search terms in many countries including Australia, the USA and the UK.
So what exactly are lip fillers?
Lip fillers, or more specifically dermal lip fillers are an injectable form of Hyaluronic Acid, (a naturally occurring substance in the body) that are injected in and around the lip area to even out the shape of the lips, increase volume and even reduce the appearance of fine lines. Hyaluronic acid is a compound that is capable of absorbing and retaining up to 1000x its own mass in water, which helps plump the lip area to create the perfect pout.
Who is getting lip injections?
There are people from all walks of life who are improving their outward appearance with the assistance of lip fillers. Both men and women, of all ages are able to achieve significant results in a short amount of time. Many of our clients have come to us because they are either unhappy with the current appearance of their lips, are wanting a fuller and plump look or are wanting to restore the even appearance and condition of their lips as they age.
Is getting lip fillers painful?
As with any procedure involving injections there is an element of pain to be expected, however there is much we can do as experienced technicians in this field to help you be comfortable during your procedure and minimise the risk of pain. When done correctly, the pain level should be manageable for most people. The use of a local anesthetic can help minimise discomfort, so speak to your lip filler beauty partner if this pain is a major concern for you.
How safe is the procedure?
As with any optional cosmetic procedure, there is an element of risk. We have all heard horror stories when it comes to almost every cosmetic procedure. In almost every negative case the procedure was carried out either by an inexperienced or unqualified technician. The training that is associated with being an accredited beauty technician is very thorough, and regulated by Australian health bodies. It is important that you choose to partner with a qualified and experienced beauty clinic to give you peace of mind and minimise any risks associated with having lip injections.
What should I expect the day after having a lip injection procedure?
Whilst this can vary from client to client most people should expect some minor swelling for 12 to 48 hours post having lip fillers. This is completely normal. If swelling continues for more than 3 days, you should contact your beauty services provider to discuss any concerns you may have.
Once the swelling has subsided, you will notice that your lips are fuller and plumper. You may be able to see small red marks at the entry point of injection, but these will go away after a couple of days.
